Our recent voyage aboard the magnificent Seabourn Encore was a dreamy exploration of Greece, and I'm eager to share the highlights of the ports we visited. As a travel advisor, I believe it's crucial to experience a variety of excursion options firsthand so I can recommend the best fit for each of my clients. This trip was a perfect blend of pre-planned and spontaneous adventures, showcasing how to get the most out of your port stops.
In the stunning medieval fortress of Monemvasia, we did our own walking tour of the city. We loved the freedom of exploring the cobbled streets at our own pace, uncovering hidden nooks and taking in the impressive Byzantine architecture of this unique "single-entry" city. We even had a laugh about the "car and driver" provided to take us the half-mile to the town's entry, a good reminder of why I test out various tour options for myself and my clients.
At the port of Itea, we joined a Seabourn group shore excursion to the ancient site of Delphi. It was a fascinating and well-organized experience. Our guide was excellent, providing insightful commentary to a group of about 25 of us as we toured the Sacred Way and the Temple of Apollo. The panoramic views and historical significance made this a highlight of the trip.
Our approach was different in Lefkada, where we chose to explore on our own. We spent time wandering through the charming town of Nydri and walking along the public beaches. It was a busy September day, but we loved the lively atmosphere and took note of the various cabanas available for rent along the shore.
Corfu was a standout, thanks to a private tour arranged through one of my most trusted travel suppliers. Our guide, a delightful and knowledgeable local, provided an authentic and deeply personal insight into the island's rich history and culture. In addition to exploring the Old Town, we drove to Paleokastritsa and Lakones Village for stunning coastal scenery and panoramic views. We visited Kanoni Viewpoint for its iconic postcard view of the Vlacherna Monastery and Mouse Island. We also wandered through Mon Repos Estate & Gardens, the birthplace of Prince Philip, to enjoy its tranquil beauty and historical significance.
While this part of our cruise focused on the Ionian Sea, our journey continues in my next post, where I will be highlighting our stops in Croatia. Yes, we love these travel experiences, but they are not just for our pure enjoyment. I pay close attention to what works so that I can craft the perfect, tailor-made itinerary for you, no matter your destination. Let me help you navigate your next adventure, blending the best of group tours, private excursions, and independent exploration to create your dream vacation. Stay tuned for more unforgettable travel!
